SmartReturns ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal data of merchants using our Shopify App and their customers. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and safeguard information.

2. Information We Collect

When you install the SmartReturns app, we access the following via the Shopify API:

  • Merchant Data: Store domain, contact information, and configuration settings.
  • Order Data: Details of orders including fulfillment status, cancellation reasons, and shipment statuses.
  • Customer Data: We access phone numbers and email addresses solely to generate an anonymized, one-way cryptographic hash (SHA-256). We do not store plain-text customer PII (Personally Identifiable Information) in our database.

3. How We Use Information

The information collected is used exclusively to:

  • Provide the core functionality of the SmartReturns app (calculating return/cancellation risk for future orders).
  • Automatically tag risky orders within your Shopify admin.
  • Improve our risk assessment algorithms via aggregated, non-identifiable data sets.

4. Data Sharing and Security

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to third parties. We employ industry-standard security measures to protect the integrity of our database. Cross-store intelligence is generated using hashed data only, meaning a customer's identity remains completely anonymous.

5. Your Rights

Shopify merchants can uninstall the app at any time, which triggers an automated webhook to remove their store data and configurations from our active systems in compliance with Shopify's data retention policies.
